Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about valve selection, specifications, and certifications for this industry.

Sanitary butterfly valves, hygienic ball valves, diaphragm valves and suitable control valves may be used in food and beverage processing. The right valve depends on the product, hygiene requirements, operating conditions, cleaning method and required flow or isolation function.

A sanitary valve is designed to meet specific hygienic requirements, including suitable product-contact surfaces and cleanability. A standard industrial valve may not have the surface finish, internal geometry or documentation required for hygienic processing. Selection should follow the plant's applicable hygiene standards.
Stainless steel grades such as SS304 and SS316L may be considered, depending on the product and process conditions. Wetted materials, seals and elastomers must be compatible with the food or beverage, cleaning chemicals, temperature and applicable food-contact requirements.

Sanitary butterfly valves, hygienic ball valves and suitable diaphragm valves may be considered for dairy applications. Selection depends on the product, cleaning procedure, connection type, hygiene requirements and the risk of product retention inside the valve.

Only valves specified for the intended Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) or Sterilization-in-Place (SIP) conditions should be selected. Verify cleaning chemicals, temperature, pressure, exposure time, seal compatibility and the manufacturer's documented suitability for the required cleaning cycle.

Consider the product's viscosity, suspended particles, temperature, required flow rate and cleaning procedure. The valve design and flow passage should suit the product while meeting sealing, hygiene and maintenance requirements.

Evaluate the liquid properties, required flow rate, operating pressure, hygiene requirements and cleaning method. The valve should provide the required flow performance and shut-off while meeting the product-contact and cleanability requirements of the process.

Confirm the wetted-material grades, seal and elastomer compatibility, required surface finish, connection design, cleaning-cycle limits and applicable food-contact requirements. Request supporting documentation from the manufacturer for any specific compliance claims.
