A spherical ball with a flow passage rotates approximately 90°. When the bore is aligned with the pipeline, slurry flows through the valve. When the ball rotates to the closed position, it blocks the flow and isolates the line.

A Knife Gate Valve uses a sliding gate and is widely used for high-solid-content and abrasive slurry isolation.
